Abstract Futuristic Background

Why would you want to fit an alarm?

Answering that question is never easy.  It should be though because the answer is simple really. You should fit an alarm because you need one, but that isn’t always what people want to hear.  However, the truth is that you do!  You need an alarm

Most drivers think that they already have an alarm but that really isn’t the case.  All modern vehicles are fitted with an immobiliser, they have to, it’s the rules.  But they don’t have to fit an alarm, so more often than not, they don’t.  This is a shame, because you really do need one.

The reason that you need one is because they make a racket.  They are ear-splitting, invasive and difficult to be around and that, is the whole point.

We often hear the argument that nobody pays attention to alarms going off and maybe that’s true of the general public, but those are the same people who walk past a van being robbed and are quite likely to look the other way then as well.  However, two people do listen when an alarm sirens, you – the owner are one, and the other is the guy doing his best to work his way through your tools, hunt for any money you have just been paid and forgotten to bring in with you, or relieve you of anything else of value to him.

The truth is that alarms are loud, really loud, really, really loud! It’s almost impossible to concentrate with one going off in an enclosed space less than a meter from your head, especially with the additional risk that someone is going to lean out of their window at any moment shouting, “oh I say there, please don’t do that,” or something remarkably similar but perhaps slightly more forthright… ahem…

Not only that though, our alarms are obvious, they have a blinking great flashing blue led on the dash, they send a clear message, “this van is alarmed, move on and try another why don’t you?”

We keep saying it time and time again, you can’t absolutely stop them, but you can make it blimmin’ difficult for them and our advice is always the same, start with an alarm and work your way up.  The ideal is, of course ,to fit an alarm and deadlocks, and if you have a Transit (even a new one) replace the driver’s door lock as well, your central locking will still work but you won’t have that vulnerable plastic lock inviting every wrong ‘un in the area to have a go.

The ultimate would be to go all in, so to speak: alarm, deadlocks, slamlocks, tracking and metal protectionplates.  We know that’s not always possible but when it comes to security, we can’t stress enough, MORE IS BETTER!

Add it all up, then do a quick tally of your tools and the nightmare of losing them; the days without being able to work, the increase to your insurance policy (assuming that all of your tools are covered, that is), the stress of having to reschedule work.  Honestly, there's no magic bullet (we’d sell them if there was one 😉 ) but there are things that you can do to protect yourself and leave yourself less vulnerable.  You can’t be there all the time but your alarm, your deadlocks and a couple of very loud sirens can be.  Why not give us a call to have a chat about your van and what we can do to help?
